Rooney rules out Serie A switch

The Manchester United and England striker says he "loves" playing in the Premier League and, while he did not say he would stay at Old Trafford, rejected talk of an Italian switch

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney says he is unlikely to play club football in Italy during his career.

Rooney, who has spent his entire career in the Premier League and the last 11 years at Old Trafford, arrived in Turin on Monday ahead of England's friendly with Italy at Juventus Stadium.

At a news conference, the 29-year-old was asked whether he sees himself moving to Serie A, and while he did not exactly pledge his future to United, he did rule out a move to Serie A.

"I love playing in the Premier League," Rooney responded.

"I used to watch [Gabriel] Batistuta for Fiorentina, but don't think I'd play in Italy."

England manager Roy Hodgson confirmed Rooney will start against Italy alongside Tottenham's Harry Kane, who made a goalscoring international debut as a substitute against Lithuania on Friday.
