The Arsenal striker has been criticised by his coaches for getting too emotional when chances are missed, leaving him keen to emulate the Chelsea star's cool attitude
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that his club coaches have urged him to be more like hisChelsea counterpart, Diego Costa.
The Frenchman has scored 11 goals from 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season – a campaign interrupted by an ankle injury sustained back in August – but his recent form has helped the Gunners to a run of eight wins in their last nine matches.
As well as helping them to the FA Cup quarter-finals – in which they will play Manchester United – it has catapulted Arsenal up into third place in the Premier League table and in prime position for a coveted top-four finish and potential Champions League qualification.
However, speaking ahead of the Gunners' crunch Champions League last-16 first-leg tie with Monaco on Wednesday evening, the 28-year-old admits that there is more for him to improve upon going forward.
"When I do this [putting his head in his hands] after a missed chance, the coaches get a bit annoyed," he told L'Equipe.
"They want me to have a 'killer' attitude, almost insensitive.
"Diego Costa shows no emotion. I am more emotional. I have therefore learned to control my emotions. I try to be less demonstrative."
Costa, 26, has plundered 18 goals so far in his debut season for Chelsea following his summer move from Atletico Madrid.
That puts the Spain international five goals behind Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero's tally so far this season - but Giroud insists that he is every bit as good as the exulted duo.
"I don't have an inferiority complex," he declared. "I don't have their names but, when you look at the stats, I am only just behind them."
